Sleeping Pill Help
Welcome to Sleeping Pill Help! Sleeping Pill turns off your computer in the evening so you
can get to sleep, too. If you play on the computer too late at night, Sleeping Pill will
help you get to bed on time.
Sleeping Pill is easy to use. It starts when Windows starts, so you don't have to remember to run
it. You can learn more about Sleeping Pill, customize your sleeping pill
prescription (configure), tell the computer not to go to sleep, or see this help file. You do
all these things by using the right-click menu.
Using The Right-Click Menu
First, find the Sleeping Pill icon, in the system tray. It looks like this:
Right-click on it, and you'll see this menu:
Move the mouse over the choice you want, and click on it. Now we'll look at each choice
on the menu.
Looking at the About Sleeping Pill Box
When you click on "About Sleeping Pill" in the right-click menu, you will see:
Customizing Your Sleeping Pill Prescription
When you click on "Customize" you will see the Customize Dialog:
You can tell Sleeping Pill when you need the computer to go to sleep, how much warning you want,
what "getting ready to go to sleep" music or message you want it to play, and what you want the computer to
ask you about to get out of shutdown mode. Here's how:
Choosing The Shutdown Time
The shutdown time section looks like this:
You can enter the time, or click on each part of the time and use the scroll buttons to the right
of the time to make that part earlier or later.
Setting How Many Minutes Warning You Get
The reminder section looks like this:
You can enter the number of minutes warning you want, or use the scroll buttons to make the amount
larger or smaller. The minimum amount of warning is 2 minutes, the maximum is 30 minutes.
When the warning period begins, a message box will appear that will say, "The computer will shut
down in [...] minutes." If you have selected music or a message,
it will also start playing (see below for options). During the warning period,
you can change the shutdown time, or choose "Don't Sleep!" to exit Sleeping Pill altogether, but
once the warning period is over and shutdown has begun, you cannot then stop the shutdown.
Setting Up "Getting Ready To Go To Sleep" Music
The sound section looks like this:
You can enter a file to play, or use the file selector button
to bring up a file dialog. The Play button
plays the file, and the Stop button
stops the playback. We suggest you play the file you want to use to make sure Sleeping Pill
recognizes its format before you rely on it to warn you of an impending shutdown.
When the warning period begins, the reminder dialog displays, and the music starts playing.
If you have checked the "Repeat sound file" option, the sound file will continue to play,
repeating if necessary, until shutdown time. We have included a variety of messages to
choose from, but you can choose any message or music you like - or no sound at all. If you don't
want to play any music, then leave the box with the music file name blank.
Setting Up Confirm Actions
The confirm action part looks like this:
Confirm actions are the things you want to remind yourself to do before you go to bed. If you ask
the computer to not go to sleep, you'll be asked to confirm you've done these actions before
Sleeping Pill will exit. Simply enter what you want to be reminded of, one entry per line.
When you have all the options the way you want them, hit "OK," or to cancel, hit "Cancel."
Telling The Computer Not To Go To Sleep
When you choose "Don't Sleep!" from the right-click menu the Confirm Quit Actions appear:
For each line in the Confirm Quit Actions, there is a checkbox for you to check.
Check these, and hit "OK" to exit Sleeping Pill. If you've changed your mind,
hit "Cancel" and Sleeping Pill will keep running.
